In a collectivist economy, manufacturing is more frequently directed by the state to supply a centrally planned economy. In free market economies, manufacturing occurs under some degree of government regulation.

The economy of scale leaves most of us who would like to participate in the business of selling goods and/or services far behind in the dust of huge, large scale, distributors who are so powerful that, not unlike Nelson Rockefeller, have the power to keep us from succeeding.

There is a nouveau-movement going on at a grassroots level. Unable to find jobs or access higher education; many inventive, ambitious, even desperate unemployed's are finding their own way to generate a living wage. (calculate your living wage here) Some crazy-wonderful stuff is going on out there and thanks to the www we all have a voice in designing a new way to live and make a living.

It is the goal of As Sewn Around The World to create an actual physical place in it's own neighborhood so that local "manufacturing and distribution" can occur among a number of like minded movers and shakers who want to collectively create their own economy of scale by sharing and utilizing the same facility, utilities, marketing, distribution and resources.
